Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss
On this day in 1904, Theodor Geisel, better known to the world as Dr. Seuss, the author and illustrator of such beloved children's books as "The Cat in the Hat" and "Green Eggs and Ham," was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. Geisel, who used his middle name(which was also his mother's maiden name) as his pen name, wrote 48 books, including some for adults. He has sold well over 200 million copies of his books and they have been translated into multiple languages.
The National Education Association annually sponsors Read Across America. Now in its twelfth year, the program focuses on motivating children to read, in addition to helping them master basic skills.
The nationwide reading celebration takes place each year on or near March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, community centers, and more participate by bringing together kids and books.
In 2004, Clay Aiken participated in Read Across America. He visited a elementary school, donned a red and white Dr. Seuss hat and read to a lucky classroom of students.
Congratulations to the National Education Association for sponsoring such an important day and a big thank you to all the celebrities like Clay Aiken, who support the importance of reading for all.

Doctor Suess will go down in history. He taught me to read after all. It’s a shame Clay wasn’t there then or I’d have learned a bit faster I’m sure! Seriously, It’s great when people give back to the communities and those in need when their name becomes known. It’s a shame we all can’t emulate them and just give back because we can.
Ah yes, Doctor Suess! How many times I read the stories to my kids..until they had them memorized and ‘read’ them to me! This was a few years before starting school.

Thanks for the article about Clay reading Dr. Suess. I didn’t remember when that happened, he has participated in several different projects with kids. I bet the kids really enjoyed having him in their classroom.
My daughter’s very first book that she read to ME was HOP ON POP. Love the Suess!

I love these little reminders of all the stuff that Clay has done behind the scenes over the years…. I remember this now…. He will forever be the teacher…He just thrives in the classroom, and the kids just take to him.
Yes, Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss…I bet Mr. Aiken reads to Parker already.

I love Dr. Seuss – his books were the ones I most enjoyed reading to my children (Aunt Annie’s Alligator, AAA)
