Clay Aiken – Decca Sees The Real Man!

With the new CD, the beautiful PR pictures and the PBS special, it seems that Decca is re-introducing Clay Aiken to the world.  They are reaching out to Clay’s supportive fan-base, but are also reaching out to others who will be a new part of his audience.

With that in mind, I have a couple of questions for you.  I hope you will think about it and answer.  The more responses, the more fun this will be.

If you were to meet a person who had never heard of Clay or ever heard him sing:

1.  What 1 audio performance would you choose to introduce them to Clay?

2.  What 1 video performance would you choose?

3.  Would you choose a different performance for a younger person versus an older person?

I am looking forward to you responses and a special thank you to MagicalMusic for this blog idea.

  1. 1. What 1 audio performance would you choose to introduce them to Clay?
I have a BIG problem with this! LOL
I can't seem to come up with just one. I have been racking my brain for the past 5 minutes and it's just.not.possible!
It would come down to at least 7 recordings and that's after narrowing it down significantly.
So, I'm going to go with my default song….the one I discovered & fell in love with him over. It's not my favorite any longer but it's the only way I can answer this question without spending an entire day agonizing over the selection 🙂

    Answer: Without You

    2. What 1 video performance would you choose?
Ugh! Again another painful & very difficult decision!
    After much mental wrestling….

With a close second for his Solitaire performance from AI3 & WY from the View 2006

    3. Would you choose a different performance for a younger person versus an older person?
Perhaps, but I think it would depend on the individual's taste in music more than their age.

  2. Number one audio : " Something About Us" or "Sorry Seems to be The Hardest Word."
Number one video: ISY Dayton, Aug. 2004 video by idyj
Number one performance for younger person: Anything from Jukebox Tour
Number one performance for older person: "Beso Eso" and "There's a KInd of Hush All Over the World".

Give us the sexy Clay on stage, please. We love it!

  3. 1. What 1 audio performance would you choose to introduce them to Clay?

Assuming you mean from one of his albums I'd have to go with either Ashes or Everything I Don't Need.

    2. What 1 video performance would you choose?

Can't pick just one. Either the GMA Suspicious Minds, one of the tour When Doves Cry or Celebrate Me Home performances.

    3. Would you choose a different performance for a younger person versus an older person?

It would depend more on their musical taste than their age.

  4. 1. What 1 audio performance would you choose to introduce them to Clay? This is a really hard thing to do…. I believe "O Holy Night". His voice is absolute perfection. You could pretty well play anything.
    2. What 1 video performance would you choose? I love watching the funny Clay, but for someone new, I'd like to show "I want to Know What Love Is. where he shows his range singing with Quianna and Angela…I believe it is in Florida 2007.
    3. Would you choose a different performance for a younger person versus an older person? It again would depend on the person, rather than age… I do believe TNT is going to be one of those CD's that I'm going to fall in love with more songs and from what I've heard, this CD is spectacular I cannot wait. Hugs, Judy

  5. 1. What 1 audio performance would you choose to introduce them to Clay? That's a real tough one. I would choose one of his more recent performances. As wonderful as Clay was on American Idol, he has grown into an amazing vocalist. Probably Something About Us from QVC or the AOL Sessions

    2. What 1 video performance would you choose? Odd as it sounds, I would probably show them When I See You Smile from Pala. Not only do you get his amazing voice, but you also get a feel for him as a performer. That or one of the I Wanna Know What Love Is performances (maybe Orlando or San Diego, although I have a soft spot for Indio due to the yodeling)

    3. Would you choose a different performance for a younger person versus an older person? No, I feel that Clay is just as appealing to a young person with an appreciation for talent rather than trendy and/or glitzy as an older person who maybe grew up during a time when vocals were more important than "persona". Spectacular vocals transcends time and will never go out of style.

Wonderful questions – made me think!!! Thanks!

  6. this is a good quiz – tough though

1 audio – very, very hard but I just love "Where I draw the line"

2 video – I've always loved Solitaire when he performed on Leno – takes my breath away. But it's just not the complete Clay experience without seeing his concert banter – so much fun!

3 I agree that it 's more about the person's musical taste then age.

  7. If the person is older, I would pick the studio version of "Solitaire" For a younger person, it would be "Ashes". I'm sure that would have been a big hit if it had been released.

My video choices would be "Unchained Melody" from the PBS special for the more mature fan and a concert video of "Back For More" for a more youthful fan.

I hope after seeing and hearing those performance they ask for more. 🙂

  8. Audio – "As Long As We're Here"

Video – "Solitaire" American Idol Season #3

Yes.. younger – Broken Wings or Ashes
    older – "Unchained Melody"

  9. 1. Bridge over Troubled Waters. I think most folks have heard it by Simon & Garfunkle
    2. Solitaire AI 2 or 3
    3. I think all ages can relate to "Lover All Alone". We've all been there sometime.

  10. The following response was sent to us in an e-mail:

    1. What 1 audio performance would you choose to introduce them to Clay?

My favorite cd I would have to have them listen to On My Way Here

    2. What 1 video performance would you choose?

    One from the Jukebox Tour

    3. Would you choose a different performance for a younger person versus an older person?

    Maybe Spamalot
