TWICE!!!

When you have a chance, stop by the OFC and read the beautiful blog from Clay Aiken.  We still don't have any concrete news.  Clay said that there are just too many people that have to sign off on the dotted lines.  He did sound frustrated and sad that he could not share with us yet.  However, Clay said that he was more excited about March 12th (which he said is confirmed) than any event he has participated in for a long time.

Clay's second blog was a list of possible hotels in Raleigh that might be convenient for March 12th.  I think he wants us there.

Thank you, Clay for signing on and letting us know that you hadn't forgotten about us.

I am a bit embarrassed to say I spent then entire day almost chained to the computer.  I had all my work on my desk, but found myself refreshing over and over.

As the day went by, I became a bit disappointed and nervous, but I reminded myself that Clay Aiken is an honorable man and that if I was frustrated, he must have been frantic.

The following quote is a great one for today.

"There can be no deep disappointment where there is not deep love."
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Well, tomorrow is another day and I look forward to all the Clay news that is  in the future.  Hopefully, we won't have to wait much longer.

I was going to post a couple of wonderful Clay videos, but YouTube is down for maintenance so a few great pictures will remind us of why we are waiting.

Oh My!!  I think I just proved that it is worth the wait!!

Please remember that as soon as we have any news, we will post here so that you will know what is happening.  Also, another reminder to post some more love songs in the February 6th blog.  We already have some great entries, but it will be more fun if we can get some more.

February 7, 2004 was a typical Saturday night.  At 11:30pm, televisions all over the US switched to NBC to watch the popular show, Saturday Night Live. The guest host of the evening was Megan Mullally, but the star of the evening was Clay Aiken.

The preceding week, NBC teased their audience with lots of fun promos for the show and each one showed Clay just being his "funny" self.  There was even one with a "pasty" that was a parody on the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Most Clay Aiken fans knew the night was going to be great as soon as we saw Clay jump on stage dressed in a white tux and belting out "She's So Hot!"

Clay was actively involved throughout the show.  One of the highlights was a skit about getting into the Grammy Awards.  The ill-fitted suit, the curly wig, the exaggerated accent and especially the "Aiken Wink" made Trey Aiken and the skit a highlight of the entire season.

Besides acting, Clay sang   "Invisible" and "The Way."  When the show was over, it was fun to see all the cast hugging each other and congratulating Clay for the great job that he did.

Nobody sings a love song better than Clay Aiken.  He has the ability to make us fall in love over and over again.

The best love songs are in the heart of the beholder. Songs that strike a cord of passion, belonging, and self expression are the ones that end up being your favorites. The very second a song starts playing will most likely identify an instant in time when you were either falling in love, deeply in love, or falling out of love.

It takes a great artist and great lyrics to be a source of inspiration and expression.  The combination is an influence on your emotions which help to decide what the best love songs are for you.

There is a love song for every genre of music. From hard rock to the oldies and gospel, there is a limitless amount of music to choose from to celebrate the love in your heart.

What are your favorite love songs of all time that you would love to hear Clay Aiken sing? Are they classics or contemporaries? Maybe you like a ballad or one with a dance beat. How about country or pop or rock?

We did such a good job of putting together a list of Christmas songs that I am sure we can come up with a great selection of love songs for Clay to sing.

Please list your top three or four love or romantic songs that you would like  Clay to sing. It doesn’t matter if he has already recorded them or if they are new to him.  And try not to read the comments until you list your own selections.  Of course, if you post four songs today and then think of the very best, just add it in another comment.

If you have the time, why not share why you like the songs.  Also, have you kept one favorite song for years or do your favorites change over time?

Let’s give ourselves one week to compile our list so the deadline is Saturday, February 13th.  I will list the winners on Valentine’s Day.

Have fun and let’s be creative.

Clay Aiken seems to have many fans that are women.  They range in age from pre-teens to grandmothers.  Each one should be wearing red today.

Today is National Wear Red Day, a part of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement, and is a simple, but powerful, way to call attention to heart disease and stroke.

Heart disease often is thought of as a “man’s disease,” but it is the leading cause of death for both women and men in the U.S., and women account for 52 percent of the total heart disease deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The stark reality is that one in three women will die of heart disease.

The Go Red for Women movement strives to educate women about their risk for heart disease and stroke, how to recognize signs of a heart attack or stroke and how to live healthier lives in an attempt to prevent heart disease and stroke.

The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Web site has an incredible amount of information.

How smart the founders of this project were to choose the month of February to celebrate the day.  After all, February is well-known for being the month of love.

That makes me think of love songs…..especially love songs sung by Clay Aiken.

It seems that Clay Aiken has great timing in selecting the songs for his new CD and great timing for releasing the album.  We all know that good timing is a huge part of being successful.  Maybe the following is a co-incidence, but maybe it’s just good timing.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) will host its 18th annual Latin Music Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, CA on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. The black tie gala will honor the songwriters and publishers of ASCAP’s most performed songs in Latin Music of 2009.

One of the many highlights of the invitation-only dinner and awards ceremony will be the presentation of the ASCAP Latin Heritage Award to acclaimed songwriter Armando Manzanero in recognition of his unique and enduring contributions to Latin music.

Who is Armando Manzanero?  Armando Manzanero is a Latin American musician and composer who is widely considered the premiere Mexican romantic composer of the postwar era.  Manzanero represents the past, present and future of romantic music in Latin America.

At the age of eight he was introduced into the world of music in the Escuela de Bellas Artes (School of High Arts) in his hometown.  Later, he furthered his musical studies in Mexico City. In 1950, at the age of fifteen, he composed his first melody titled Nunca en el Mundo (Never in the World) Twenty-one versions in different languages have been recorded to date. The following year he began his professional career as a pianist.

In 1970, a singer by the name of Perry Como recorded a song.  The melody was by one of the most prolific and melodic songwriters from Mexico, Armando Manzanero.  The recording reached #10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and number one on the Easy-Listening chart.  The original title of the song was “Somos Novios”.  It helped to bring pretty melodies back into the rock-heavy music of the time. We know this beautiful song as “It’s Impossible.”

By this time, it all comes together.  Clay said that “It’s Impossible” was a part of his new album.  So, within months, the songwriter, Manzanero, is honored by ASCAP for writing beautiful melodies and Clay Aiken releases an album that includes one of the most famous of those melodies.  Yes, timing is an integral part of being successful.

This wonderful video of Clay singing “It’s Impossible” is amazing.  I bet you can’t watch it just once.

Clay Aiken hosted a wonderful event on Monday.  Everything was planned and put together with a great deal of care.   The event gave us education, friendship, comedy and the best singing around.  Having just gotten home, I have just begun to check out the comments and "Clack" that are all about the wonderful concert that Clay Aiken gave on Monday night.  Seems like we are headed for a wonderful ride.

Nothing seemed more appropriate than to say no more and just put up some wonderful videos.  I know you can get them many places.  However, I don't think you can see them too often.  Enjoy!!

If you ever have the opportunity to see Clay Aiken perform live, be sure and attend.  I was at the Golfing event on February 1, 2010 at the Mirasol Country Club. The entire event was amazing.

Right now I am on a plane on my way home, remembering all the excitement from the event.

One of the things I remember the most are all the new friends I met.  So many people came up to say hello.  Clay fans have to be the most friendly people around.  You can never be lonely when you attend a Clay Aiken event.

Each person affiliated with The National Inclusion Project is extremely knowledgeable and excited about what they do. Each staff member greeted their guests and took the time to talk.  They made me feel as though I was an important person at the event.  I want to especially single out Diane.  She went out of her way to chat with people and she treated each one as a true friend.

And of course there is Clay Aiken.  He was so casual during the golfing event, joking and relaxed.  When he made his appearance at the dinner, his look was still casual, but stylish too.  It is wonderful to see him seemingly relaxed, happy, comfortable and looking forward to page two in his career.

The consummate  entertainer, he made us laugh and then turned around and held us mesmerized by his wonderful performances.  It was fun to hear the "ah" when he would start a new song, followed by a quiet audience, listening to each word and phrase.  His voice was magical and he is ready to entertain us!!

My battery is low on my laptop, so I will close by posting a few pictures.  Pictures are always good!!

All for now!!  When I am home, I will post some more pictures as they come in and we will get some videos up too.  Thanks for all your support!

Just a quick post to update the golfing event.

The golfers are trying to go ahead with the tournament.  Almost all of them decided to play.

The brunch was wonderful.  The golfers went to attend the workshop, but decided that it would be better inside.  It was great and very funny stories… probably better than usual.  Clay was then called up and he said that they were putting their heads together as if they were at summer camp on a rainy day… maybe they could all make pot holders.  Well, they did come up with some alternatives, The Mirasol is trying to help out too.  They opened the swing analyzer for the players.  Clay also mentioned that some might want to play poker and they could do that in the lounge.  He also said they will still take pictures and then if anyone wants, he will sit and chat with whoever wants to.  I guess maybe I should have signed up to play golf.  I might have gotten a nice conversation.

After all that, most of the players decided to play.

Clay looked healthy, happy and casual.  His hair is short and the color is as I would think his real color is.  I took some pictures with my cell phone, but the back lighting is horrible so they are dreadful.  I will post them, but I say “sorry” ahead of them.

When I get more news I will post!!

Sunday night,  I attended a wonderful RoundTable meeting of volunteers of The National Inclusion Project.  Aron Hall led the meeting which was lots of fun and full of so much information.

We started the meeting with some great ice-breakers which gave us the opportunity to meet different people in the room.  The thirty volunteers became relaxed and seemed to jump right in.

Aron discussed many things with us.  I took a few notes, but I am sure that he will be sharing the information with us through the Foundation's web page.

I am just going to list a few of the things that were mentioned......I wish my notes were more organized.

  • Did you know that 5000 kids were involved with the National Inclusion Project this year?
  • They will no longer be using the title  of "Grant".  The organization does much more than just "grant' money.  They also give hands on training and provide a network system for the "grants".  No alternate name was mentioned.
  • Job of volunteers has three parts.  First, we are a mouthpiece; we share the story.  Second, we are firestarters; we create enthusiasm.  Lastly, we need to be an organizer.
  • With the name change, it is wonderful that we can capitalize on the name......Inclusion.
  • Challenge for the year.....Beta Alpha chapters together raise $200,000 in 2010!!
  • Wait until you see the new "Painted Bottoms" project.

It was wonderful to join with other volunteers and get ideas and excitement from them.  There is so much we can do to support The National Inclusion Project.

A BIG Thank you to Aron who met with us instead of having dinner with Clay at the Country Club dinner.  I hope you know how much everyone appreciated the meeting.

And another thank you to Diane and Jerry for stopping in after the dinner to say hello.

Speaking of Clay Aiken............did you all see this picture from the dinner last night?  It was reported that Clay sang 3 songs and they were all wonderful.

Update: A recap posted at Clayversity by hippoga:

Aron Hall hosted a Roundtable for "National Inclusion Project" volunteers here at the hotel. There were around 30 people in attendance. Aron spoke eloquently and from the heart about what he hopes "National Inclusion Project" volunteers will be-mouthpieces to "tell the story" of the project and it's mission, firestarters to be enthusiastic about "National Inclusion Project" programs and fundraising activities and organizers to start local activities in our communities to support the "National Inclusion Project". We participated in several activities to meet our fellow volunteers and to share successful projects and ideas from around the country. Diane Buble, Jerry Aiken and Kristie Barnes came in to say hello and thank you when they returned from the dinner/miniconcert for the Mirasol members. Diane assures us that Clay's hair looks good and he sounds great. I'm looking forward to confirming that in person tomorrow!
